Engineering Scalable Robotics with high perofrmance thermoplastics (From materials to system performance)
Description

Robotics is entering a phase of rapid scaling from industrial automation to humanoids and service robots. As they move into everyday environments, requirements for durability, lightweight design, and manufacturability are being fundamentally redefined.

This session explores how engineering thermoplastics enable scalable robotic systems—across structural components, drive systems (actuators, gears, motors, electronics), and key hardware interfaces.

We take a system-level perspective on how material selection, design, and processing together unlock performance, reliability, and cost efficiency. We also address why lightweighting matters for scalability, mobility, and safe human interaction, enabled through fiber reinforcement, thermoplastic composites, and functional integration.
In addition, we highlight the role of passive thermal management, where thermally conductive polymers support reliable heat dissipation without liquid cooling.
